Welcome to KNHS FCCLA!
KNHS FCS

FCS Opportunities
"What does FCS mean?" It stands for Family Consumer Sciences, which is a type of class that we offer here at KNHS. Our FCS classes are designed to increase your college and career readiness as well as basic life skills. Many students who take FCS classes here at KNHS have chosen to pursue a job/degree in a FCS career field!
Knob Noster High School offers three FCS classes to its students: Child Development, Nutrition & Wellness, and Intro to Teaching. Child Development and Nutrition & Wellness are taught by one of our advisors, Mrs. Dow. Intro to Teaching is taught by our other advisor, Mrs. Hollrah, and this class offers dual credit through UCM (located in Warrensburg, MO).

How have FCS classes helped you in FCCLA and in school?

Current KNHS Student
FCS classes helped me tremendously in my life, as well as FCCLA. I learned lifelong lessons that I continue to use throughout my life today. I have learned how to sew, cook, bake, use teaching strategies, gained important knowledge about pregnancy and the development of children. Last year, I conducted the STAR Event, Say Yes to FCS, where I taught middle school students about the importance of FCS classes and how they can impact future careers. Doing this project led me to appreciate my classes even more and how they truly teach you important skills you will need to know. I found they will help you succeed in almost every career you could think of. That project was able to take me to Orlando, Florida, where I placed 7th in nationals and experienced many opportunities to let my leadership shine. -Madyson Betz (Class of 2027)

FCS classes have had a meaningful impact on my life, especially during my time in college. They’ve helped me develop practical life skills like time management, budgeting, and effective communication, while also encouraging me to think more intentionally about my goals and responsibilities. Through FCS, I’ve gained confidence, a stronger sense of independence, and tools that support both my academic success and personal growth. These classes have truly helped prepare me for real life beyond college.
